A TRUCK driver had to be freed from his ve­hi­cle af­ter be­ing trapped in­side for more than an hour af­ter a powerline came down over his truck at Break­wa­ter.

Emer­gency ser­vices were called to the in­ter­sec­tion of Tan­ner and Leather streets, about 12.45pm yes­ter­day.

Se­nior Con­sta­ble Glenn Stephens said Pow­er­cor was called to dis­con­nect the live powerline be­fore the truck driver could be safely freed.

“The B-double truck was try­ing to do a U-turn in Tan­ner St when he’s hooked a powerline on his truck,” he said.

“Pow­er­cor had to come and dis­con­nect the line with the driver stuck in the truck for close to an hour.

“He was at­tempt­ing to drop off his trailer when he got into trou­ble.”

The driver, aged in his 50s, es­caped in­jury.

In a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent, mo­torists dodged de­bris on La­trobe Ter­race af­ter a semi­trailer lost its top near Fyans St, Gee­long yes­ter­day.
