Car strikes pole at black spot

THREE peo­ple are in hos­pi­tal af­ter a car crash at a no­to­ri­ous Bir­re­gurra in­ter­sec­tion.

Emer­gency ser­vices were called to the in­ter­sec­tion of Cape Ot­way Rd and Bir­re­gurra-Deans Marsh Rd af­ter re­ports a car had struck a power pole at 12.18am yes­ter­day.

Am­bu­lance Vic­to­ria spokes­woman Lina Hawi said three peo­ple were taken to Gee­long hos­pi­tal in sta­ble con­di­tions.

“We had three pa­tients,” she said. “A woman in her 50s who sus­tained a head in­jury.

“A man in his 50s who sus­tained a chest in­jury. A woman in her 20s was taken to Gee­long for ob­ser­va­tion. ”

On Jan­uary 5, an in­ci­dent at the same in­ter­sec­tion was caught on dash cam, which showed a sil­ver Jeep pulling out in front of a white Com­modore sta­tion wagon at 12.30pm.

The Com­modore driver quickly hit the brakes and turned away from the Jeep, avoid­ing a col­li­sion.

There has been a se­ries of road in­ci­dents at the nearby in­ter­sec­tion of Cape Ot­way Rd and Winchelsea-Deans Marsh Rd.

VicRoads re­sponded by cut­ting the speed limit to 60km/h along the 400m ap­proach to the in­ter­sec­tion.
