Call The Midwife ABC, 8pm

Geelong Advertiser - - TV -

It’s often hailed as a feel-good drama, but CallTheMidwife doesn’t shirk away from dark moments in history and troubling issues. In tonight’s season six premiere, there is joy when the midwives return from their South African experience, but the happiness is quelled upon the discovery that, in their absence, Sister Ursula (Harriet Walter, pictured) has been running a very tight ship at Nonnatus House. When it is announced that she will remain in charge, above Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter), the tension escalates. Meanwhile, we meet a pregnant mother whose violent husband has just been released from jail.
