Team behind greatest show on turf

WHEN people think Winx they normally think of Chris Waller and Hugh Bowman.

But this photo shows the real ‘team Winx’.

The Waller stable gathered with the champion mare days after her Queen Elizabeth Stakes triumph for a group photo before the she went off to the spelling paddock for a well-earned rest.

Winx equalled Black Caviar’s record of 25-straight wins last Saturday and it’s not over yet as the stable looks to add a fourth Cox Plate to her unbelievable record.

She is less than $2000 off cracking the $19m in career earnings and has won 29 races from 35 starts and been unbeaten for three years. She’s set to return to racing in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) in August, but there’s speculation her owners might have a crack at the $13m The Everest (1200m) in October but that’s doubtful.

A fourth Cox Plate run could be her final career start, but when she returns in the spring she’ll be a seven-year-old and Waller stressed that she wouldn’t run unless she came back as well as ever.

She’s already a $1.50 chance to claim a fourth Cox Plate and a $15 chance in The Everest.
