Pilkadaris flies blind to two

-

AUSTRALIAN Terry

Pilkadaris etched his name into the Vic Open record books. But Pilkadaris did not see the result that did it. The 34-year-old hit a perfectly struck five iron from 201m with his second shot on the Beach’s parfive 11th and it nestled into the hole for an albatross. It was the first albatross at Thirteenth Beach in the men’s championship since the tournament was moved to the course in 2013. The shot was seen by Suzuka Yamaguchi’s caddie, who was looking down on the 11th green from the 12th tee box while his group waited to hit. He frantically signalled to the unaware Pilkadaris, but it wasn’t until he got closer to the hole that he realised what he had done. It is the first albatross he has had in a tournament. The albatross was the reward for an aggressive attitude off the tee on 11.

Richard Green scored an albatross on the par-four 15th, but that was during a pro-am. The last albatross on the Australian Tour was by

Max McArdle in the 2018 NSW Open.
