MEGHAN TELLS OF ROYAL TRAUMA

- NADIA SALEMME

MEGHAN Markle is set to reveal her private battle with mental health issues during her time in the royal family in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey that airs in Australia on Monday.

The New York Post reports the Duchess of Sussex tells Winfrey about the breakdown that led her and Prince Harry to quit royal life.

“What Meghan says is very, very serious and upsetting,” a source said.

Meghan, 39, reportedly says life inside the royal family, known as The Firm, was “almost unsurvivable”.

“I don’t know how they could expect that after all of this time we would still just be silent if there is an active role that The Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us,” she says in a trailer for her interview with Winfrey.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are yet to be contacted by Buckingham Palace over bullying accusations in which staff said they were “completely destroyed” by Meghan. The duchess denies the allegations and is said to be “saddened by this latest attack on her character”.

She is “deeply committed to those who have experienced pain and trauma”, the couple’s representative said.

Speaking to The Times in London, one of the alleged victims said: “We will finally be able to tell the truth. It’s not going to be easy, but this is very welcome and long overdue”.

Meghan is said to have clashed with royal aides over freebie designer clothes sent to Kensington Palace.

The Sun newspaper reported she had “rows” with staff when told that keeping clothes sent by fashion labels was against royal protocol.

Meghan was regularly pictured wearing luxury labels including Stella McCartney, Givenchy, Prada and Chanel at official engagements.

Prince Charles paid her wardrobe bill after she wed Harry in May 2018.

A source close to Prince William and Kate Middleton told the Post the couple did not want to get involved in the “soap opera” around Harry and Meghan.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are said to be dreading the uncomfortable attention about to hit the royal family when Meghan and Harry’s interview with Winfrey airs in full.

“William and Catherine could not be more discreet (and) they don’t want to get involved in this public bitch fest, but I am sure that William is desperately sad about all this,” the royal source said.

“Even when Harry spoke about the fallout with William, there was no briefing from the Cambridges. And by saying nothing, that is the smartest move.”
