This was a tough assignment to judge this year’s upper primary prose section as the standard was high and it was really hard to select the winners. The Great Football Match was selected as it was so well written, simple and with great pace. Fading in, Fading Out was selected as it was a compassionately written piece painting a picture of a loving family and the writer’s stoicism under the trying circumstances. Third place went to Jungle Tragedy for its originality and the way the writer used language to build momentum and suspense. Both of the highly commended stories were very well written and well paced, with a great deal of suspense building up right until the end. Well done, winners.
