Goat blamed for 4WD rollover

A man in his 50s has nar­rowly es­caped se­ri­ous in­jury af­ter rolling his four-wheel-drive and the car­a­van it was tow­ing when he swerved to avoid hit­ting a goat near Kal­barri.

The ac­ci­dent hap­pened about 12.15pm on Satur­day on North West Coastal High­way.

A po­lice spokes­woman said he lost con­trol af­ter sw­erv­ing onto the gravel verge when a goat ran across the road.

She said the ve­hi­cle and trailer were dam­aged but the driver es­caped with mi­nor bruis­ing. He was held in hospi­tal overnight for ob­ser­va­tion but re­leased on Sun­day morn­ing.

Kal­barri po­lice posted a photo of the in­ci­dent to Twit­ter, along with this re­minder for mo­torists: “If you see wildlife on the road, please don’t swerve! This mo­torist es­caped with mi­nor in­juries only”.
