Battle of the Bands a proud example of our youth

Geraldton Guardian - - Guardian | Opinion - Luke Bayley, Geraldton

I am writing to congratulate the organisers and sponsors of last weekend’s Battle of the Bands, held at the Queens Park Theatre amphitheatre.

Lead organisers the City of Greater Geraldton and the Geraldton Police and Community Youth Centre hosted with huge success an event that celebrated our youth and promoted creativity within our city.

I attended the event with my partner, eight-year-old son and his friend. All of us were thoroughly entertained for the duration of Sunday afternoon. The Queens Park Theatre amphitheatre is a great venue, and we were all inspired by the inclusive nature of the event, the diverse mix of bands, the young people working as volunteers and the community members who came together to celebrate the joy of music, and most importantly our young people.

Geraldton’s young people our are future and, judging by the talent, guts and hard work displayed at this year’s Battle of the Bands, I reckon we are in good hands. It is so important that all people in the region continue to get behind our young people and encourage them to be all that they can be.

This event was an excellent example of how to support and how to be inspired by the youth in town.

Thanks so much to all the organisers, mentors, volunteers and sponsors.

You should all be very proud. It is programs and events such as this that will pave a brighter future for this regional city and it also shows why we should be proud of and believe in the dreams of the young people in our lives.
