Winners put on pressure to halt run of Rovers
Saints supporters were settling in at Mitchell and Brown Stadium when their A-grade team took on Rovers.
The pace was quick in the opening minutes, and six minutes in, the Saints scored after a ball from the right was converted.
Rovers had their first penalty corner five minutes later and a scrambling defence saw off the threat.
Saints’ pressure on Rovers players meant they could not run freely and often received the ball in a stationary position.
The 1-0 half-time scoreline became 1-1 five minutes into the second half when Ronan Croft deflected a goal.
Saints then failed to convert two penalty corners before they regained the lead with another field goal.
Rovers were awarded a penalty corner after a Jack Hoskins tackle with seven minutes left. After that, Saints played a possession game and slowed the match down to advance to the grand final against Casuals.
For the second consecutive week, Australs’ A-reserve team went to one-on-ones after a 2-2 scoreline at full-time against Yacht Club.
Yacht Club scored first in the second half through the efforts of Darcy Ingle. That lead was doubled when Yacht Club took advantage of a nine-man Australs side. Jack Sutherland and Josh Paterson scored within three minutes of each other to put Australs back in the game and take the game to the next le-vel.
Australs won after sudden death one-on-ones were required to determine who would play Murchison on Saturday.
