Twelve prop­er­ties in Ger­ald­ton could be ex­empt from rates if coun­cil­lors sup­port a mo­tion at next week’s coun­cil meet­ing.

Com­mu­nity Hous­ing has ap­plied for its prop­er­ties in Beach­lands, Tar­coola Beach, Ma­homets Flats and Ger­ald­ton to be deemed as “non-rate­able land” used for char­i­ta­ble pur­poses.

The prop­er­ties are cur­rently used by peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties.

The not-for-profit or­gan­i­sa­tion is a reg­is­tered char­ity, pro­vid­ing af­ford­able hous­ing for peo­ple on low to mid­dle in­comes

In Novem­ber Coun­cil granted a rates ex­emp­tion on 11 of the or­gan­i­sa­tion’s prop­er­ties.

The value of the ex­emp­tion based on the 2017-18 rates is es­ti­mated at $17,936.46 a year.
