Drugs blamed for man’s of­fend­ing

A 26-year-old man has pleaded guilty to pos­sess­ing a pro­hib­ited weapon af­ter po­lice found knuck­le­dusters in his pocket.

Stu­art Michael Ar­tur Dodd ap­peared on Thurs­day in Ger­ald­ton Mag­is­trate’s Court, where he also pleaded guilty to pos­ses­sion of stolen prop­erty, pos­ses­sion of cannabis and gain­ing ben­e­fit by fraud. Dodd ad­mit­ted to hav­ing the knuck­le­dusters af­ter po­lice searched his car dur­ing a traf­fic stop on July 3 last year.

In an un­re­lated in­ci­dent on Septem­ber 1, po­lice also dis­cov­ered cannabis, a bank card and a se­niors card not be­long­ing to Dodd in­side his bag.

De­fence coun­sel Kate Turt­leyChap­pel said Dodd had started to of­fend af­ter us­ing drugs.

He was fined $1000 and or­dered to pay court costs. He will also ap­pear in the same court on charges of ag­gra­vated home bur­glary and steal­ing later this year.
