I'm pleased that ten­ders re­cently awarded to build the new State Emer­gency Ser­vices fa­cil­ity and for the resur­fac­ing and ex­ten­sion of the Ger­ald­ton Air­port run­way to 2400m have re­sulted in a record $50 mil­lion in­vest­ment in cur­rent in­fras­truc­ture pro­jects.

The award of these two ten­ders, along with the con­tracts to build the new An­i­mal Man­age­ment Fa­cil­ity and the nearly com­pleted Beres­ford Fore­shore Coastal Pro­tec­tion and En­hance­ment Project, are val­ued at $50 mil­lion and have all been awarded to lo­cally based con­trac­tors who em­ploy lo­cal peo­ple which will keep the money in the lo­cal econ­omy. The City has also suc­cess­fully se­cured more than $39 mil­lion in State and Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment grant fund­ing for these pro­jects which is en­sur­ing crit­i­cally im­por­tant in­fras­truc­ture for our com­mu­nity is not only be­ing built, but their con­struc­tion is 78% ex­ter­nally funded.

These pro­jects have been pro­vid­ing a sig­nif­i­cant stim­u­lus to the lo­cal econ­omy for more than a year and will con­tinue to do so dur­ing their con­struc­tion and once they are com­pleted.

The ten­der to con­struct the new SES build­ing on Aeromed­i­cal Road near the air­port has been awarded to Ger­ald­ton Build­ing Ser­vices and Cab­i­nets Pty Ltd. Con­struc­tion of the $1.8 mil­lion project, which is 100% State Gov­ern­ment funded, is sched­uled to be­gin in Oc­to­ber.

WBHO In­fras­truc­ture Ger­ald­ton branch has been awarded the ten­der to un­der­take the Ger­ald­ton Air­port run­way up­grade and ex­ten­sion. Con­struc­tion on the $24 mil­lion project, which is jointly funded with the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment Build­ing Bet­ter Re­gions Fund (BBRF) con­tribut­ing $10 mil­lion, the State Gov­ern­ment Re­gional Air­ports De­vel­op­ment Scheme (RADS) $6.5 mil­lion and the City $7.5 mil­lion, is also sched­uled to be­gin in Oc­to­ber.
