Spent conviction request denied
A judge has refused to grant a spent conviction to a woman caught with 3.5g of methamphetamine and scales in a Wonthella carpark.
Nicole Penn appeared in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court last Friday charged with possession.
The court was told police found the drugs in three clip seal bags during a search of her car on February 24.
Prosecuting Sergeant Jo Morrissey opposed a spent conviction on the basis Penn had been granted spent convictions in 1996 and 2012 for cannabis and weapons charges.
Magistrate Donna Webb said Penn had been given enough chances, adding she was concerned her drug use had “escalated” from cannabis to meth.
She was fined $100 and ordered to pay $190.85 in costs.
