Punch attack “serious”

Geraldton Guardian - - NEWS - Adam Poulsen

A woman who punched a heavily pregnant woman in the face in an unprovoked and drunken attack has been sentenced to a six-month intensive supervision order.

Lesley Marie Mongoo, 34, appeared in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court last Friday charged with common assault.

Prosecuting Sergeant Jo Morrissey said about 6.40pm on September 3, Mongoo was walking through Spalding after a heavy drinking session, when she saw the victim in her own front yard.

She said Mongoo repeatedly asked the victim to “come to the street to fight”. The victim replied that she was pregnant and did not want any trouble.

Mongoo then punched her in the right eye.

Sgt Morrissey said Mongoo told officers she had known the victim since primary school and “never liked her”.

“Given that she was on an intensive supervision order and this was an unprovoked attack, I regard this as quite serious,” Magistrate Donna Webb said.

“Quite frankly, it’s disgraceful behaviour and I hope she feels deeply ashamed.

“If it was anything further I would throw her in jail.”
