Lighting towers to be installed at oval

Geraldton Guardian - - NEWS - Francesca Mann

New sports lighting towers will be installed at Greenough Oval and Alexander Park, with work expected to start this month.

Last week City of Greater Geraldton councillors voted 10-3 in favour of awarding the $1.1 million contract to Geraldton company Elite Electrical Contracting.

The existing lighting towers at the two sports fields will be removed and replaced with 100-150 lux LED light towers.

The renewal comes off the back of a review and audit of all light towers in Geraldton in which Sage Consulting Engineers identified significant safety and compliance issues in both locations.

According to briefing notes in the agenda, all towers at Alexander Park failed to meet earth loop impedance and were structurally in “very poor” condition.

The lump-sum contract requires all work to be completed by March 30 due to club tournament bookings.

Crs Steve Douglas, Graeme Bylund and David Caudwell voted against the motion, which was approved behind closed doors during October’s council meeting.
