LAURA’S MOVIE MOMENT

Girl Power - - CONTENTS -

This month, Laura will star in a brand new Disney Channel movie called

Bad Hair Day! We gave Miss Marano a quick call to get the goss on this funny flick…

HI LAURA! CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR FIRST DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE!

Thank you, I’m actually really excited! I grew up with these movies and I was obsessed with them. I watched movies like Halloweentown and Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century, all the time. Those are my movies! And to think that I have one of my own, it’s actually insane.

WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT BAD HAIR DAY?

It’s an action, buddy-cop film that was so fun to shoot! My character Monica is a prom queen nominee but everything goes horrifically wrong! Her prom dress has melted, her shoes have exploded and she wakes up having a horrible, horrible bad hair day. So the only thing that’s not messed up for her prom is this necklace. It just so happens that this down-on-her-luck cop Liz is looking for it. They strike a deal but, of course, shenanigans occur and a jewellery thief gets involved!

MONICA AND LIZ AREN’T YOUR AVERAGE DUO. WHAT MAKES THEM WORK SO WELL AS A TEAM?

What makes them so awesome is that their values are the same, but their attributes are opposite. Monica is smart, but she’s also really girly and into fashion and beauty. Liz doesn’t care what other people think, whereas Monica really cares what people think. They learn from each other in a funny way… and they definitely frustrate each other a lot! But in the end they accept each other, which is awesome.

CAN YOU REVEAL A SECRET ABOUT YOUR CO-STAR LEIGH-ALLYN BAKER?

She’s really good at speaking French! We filmed Bad Hair Day in Montreal in Canada and Leigh-Allyn was so good and it made me feel horrible because I’m so bad at French. So she would be having conversations with people and I would be like, “Ah… bonjour?” And she’s the executive producer of this movie and I think she did such an

amazing job!

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MEMORY FROM SET?

One day we filmed all day and all night from 1pm until 5am! So, at around 1am, we just wanted to crash but we still had four more hours to go! We just started singing ‘ Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ in the middle of this warehouse where we were filming. I think the crew thought we were insane! At the time I thought it was the funniest thing ever!

YOU WROTE A SONG CALLED ‘FOR THE RIDE’ FOR THE BAD HAIR DAY SOUNDTRACK. WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION?

Well, we all have bad days and we all have terrible moments when we worry and over-analyse every little detail. Sometimes it’s not about the destination, it’s about enjoying the memories you make. I think Monica realises that and her worst day ever turns out to be one of the most amazing days of her life!
