Forbidden friendship

Girlfriend - - GF ADVICE -

My best friend is a guy and we always get comments like “you two should date”, and it’s so frustrating. We’ve tried dating, but it was horribly awkward for the both of us. To make things worse, his mum doesn’t let him hang out with me because she thinks we like each other. We still meet up on the weekends, but I feel so guilty because he lies to his mum about it. What can I do?

Innocent

It is so sad that you have to go behind his mum’s back to have a friendship and that he is forced to lie. That won’t work for either of you long-term, so my suggestion is that you both sit down openly and have a chat with his mum. It would be good to find out what it is she is worried about. Once you have this information, all you can do is explain that you hate sneaking around and would prefer to be upfront with her – and that you are just friends.
