“I’m only 170 centimetres, which is really short for a guy. I’m basically the shortest guy in my grade and even half the girls tower above me. I feel like I look like their younger brother when I stand next to them. Also, when you ask every girl what sort of guy they like, they always say ‘tall’. I’d seriously give anything to be tall. And the worst part is there’s nothing I can do about
it. I was always hoping I’d have a massive growth spurt, but my dad is also really short, so I sort of knew that was unlikely. I feel like people don’t take me seriously because of my height. You’ve heard of ‘small man syndrome’, right? Well it’s definitely a thing. I’m always trying to prove that I’m tough at rugby and I’ve also recently started boxing as well. That’s given me a little bit more confidence because being short is OK for boxing.” – Usman, 18.
