OPENS PLAYED: 2. BEST FINISH: Missed Cut (2015 and 2006). WORLD RANKING: No.257.
The last Australian to qualify for The Open Championship – at the time of writing – was Adam Bland, who finished third at the Mizuno Open on the Japanese Tour in May.
The South Australian left-hander will be making his third appearance at the championship, but has yet to see any weekend action in the event.
“This will be my third Open, I haven’t been to Birkdale so I’m hoping I can perform better than I have the last few times,” the 34-year-old said. “This is what you play for all year, the chance to be in The Open. If you can qualify to play in all four majors, that’s the goal … To be that good in the world.”
Although he’s not the longest off the tee – averaging 258 metres this year – Bland is ranked inside the top-25 on the Japanese Tour for fairways hit, which will serve him well at Royal Birkdale. WINNING ODDS: $401*.
