OPENS PLAYED: 1. BEST FINISH: Missed Cut (2012). WORLD RANKING: No.323. When Ash Hall missed a five-foot putt to extend a playoff at last year’s Australian Open his heart must have sunk a bit. That is, until he realised he had earnt himself a ticket to The Open.
“I love Birkdale,” Hall said. “I played The Amateur there in 2005, so it will be nothing new to me. I qualified in the International Final Qualifying for The Open in 2012 when it was at Lytham, so I actually played Birkdale that week as well, so it’s going to be fun to play there again. The Open is one of my favourite tournaments.”
The 33-year-old Victorian won his state Open in 2009, and recently claimed a top-10 finish at the WA PGA Championship in Kalgoorlie.
Without any Tour status, Hall stayed on in Western Australia after the Kalgoorlie event to play a series of Pro-am events in the state’s south west with some success. WINNING ODDS: $401*.
