Find out why the Biom Hybrid 2 performed differently to any other spikeless shoes our tester has ever worn.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: As has been common with many of the Ecco shoes I have seen in the past, the Biom Hybrid 2 immediately struck me as an extremely functional shoe presented in a pleasing form right out of the box.

The mix of colours and textured highlights give the shoes a more modern appearance than some other Ecco models I recall from years ago.

When I first tried on the shoes, the immediate feeling was my foot was securely locked in place thanks to the combination of the solid heel and silicon insole. HOW IT PERFORMED: I am picky at the best of times when it comes to golf shoes and each pair faces an exacting process before I am ready to commit to wearing them on course. I usually wear a new pair around the house and even to the range to soften them up.

Due to the solid base and leather upper of the Biom Hybrid 2 this proved a wise move as it gave the yak leather the chance to adapt to my feet and the shoes time to soften slightly. And thanks to the crossover style of the Biom Hybrid 2 I had no problem wearing them away from the course, including to the office, while getting accustomed to them without looking like I was running late for a tee time.

Once out on the course, the Biom Hybrid 2 performed differently to any other spikeless shoe I have worn. The solid construction of the sole and heel provides the most stable, solid feeling I have experienced in a non-traditional golf shoe. They are also lightweight and comfortable enough to easily walk 18 holes in the morning and not require a change of shoes for the rest of the day. The more I wore the shoes the more comfortable they became as the leather softened and the shoe seemed to start adapting to my feet.

The sizeable nubs covering the entire sole meant I never once felt unstable when walking or swinging the club, even in damp conditions. And in comparison with even the latest soft spike, the sole of the Biom Hybrid 2 didn’t noticeably mark any greens, even during an hour long putting session before my first on-course wear.

With the Biom Hybrid 2, Ecco has done a wonderful job of identifying a middle ground between versatility and performance, designing a golf shoe to fit perfectly in between without a major bias one way or the other.

The styling of the shoes make them a perfect option for working during the day before heading out for nine holes before dark, while the impressive performance aspects combined with the high levels of support and stability make the Biom Hybrid 2 a perfect spikeless golf shoe option for a variety of golfers.
