How he does it

The Strokes Gained stat is the number of strokes a player takes from a specific distance off the tee on par-4 and par-5s measured against a statistical baseline to determine the player’s strokes gained or lost off the tee on a hole. The sum of the values for all holes played in a round minus the field average strokes gained/lost for the round is the player’s Strokes gained/lost for that round. The sum of strokes gained for each round are divided by total rounds played. Now that you have got all that, know this … Dustin Johnson did it way better than anyone else in 2017. The big difference in his driving performance over the past 18 months comes from altering his swing to combine his raw power with a more controllable fade. To do this he simply sets his body a little open at address, aims for the left side of the fairway and rips it.
