How he does it
Standing at 183cm and weighing in at 84kg, Brooks Koepka boasts a strong, athletic physique so it should be no real surprise he is among the longest drivers on Tour, averaging 307.6 yards every time he pulls the driver from his bag. He generates his clubhead speed in several ways. His athletic set-up position – straight back, slight bend forward from the hips, knees flexed and his weight on the balls of his feet – is the foundation for all the power moves to come. He boasts a wide takeaway with the clubhead staying outside of the hands, both crucial elements for a powerful swing. He completes a full shoulder turn with his back to the target but there is very little rotation of his hips. This creates a massive amount of torque, which he then unleashes in the downswing.
All that power comes to a head with hitting at the ball with his hands. It has all been about effective use of the bigger muscles in his upper body to create torque and speed.
