A warm compress can help reduce swelling. A cotton bud dipped in warm water wiped around the affected area will remove any build-up of discharge. If an infection persists, antibiotic tablets or an antibacterial ointment may be needed.
Research has also found omega-3s can improve blepharitis – people who took an omega-3 capsule twice a day for three months had improved symptoms.
“Also, think about hand hygiene,” says Arundel. “Wash your hands frequently and do a hot wash for pillow cases and sheets to minimise cross-infection.”
