Let’s play ball
It’s not too late to get back into your favourite ball sport, writes Pip Harry.
If you remember your old netball or soccer days fondly but think you’re past ball sports, think again! Getting back on the field or court as an adult is easier than you’d expect and the health benefits are huge.
“Ball sports reinforce teamwork, mateship and collaboration,” says fitness coach Ali Cavill. “Joining a team leads to a higher rate of follow-through with health and fitness goals and you’ll also learn new skills, which challenges the brain. Ball sports increase muscle mass and bone density and lower body fat, and studies have also shown that women who take them up as adults, with no prior history of playing, show improved balance.”
