Thinking of starting a family? A new study in the journal Epidemiology says it may be worth cutting back on sugarsweetened beverages like soft drinks or energy drinks. The study followed almost 4000 women living in North America and just over 1000 of their male partners. For women, drinking sugar-sweetened beverages was associated with a 25 per cent lower fecundability – the average probability that you’ll get pregnant in a monthly cycle. For men, the drop was even lower – down 33 per cent.
