When it comes to heart dis­ease, it’s ex­er­cise, not los­ing weight, that may be key to liv­ing longer. A study by Nor­we­gian re­searchers fol­lowed just over 3300 pa­tients for an av­er­age of 16 years. Com­pared to pa­tients who were in­ac­tive, those who met the rec­om­mended 150 min­utes of mod­er­ate ex­er­cise a week re­duced their risk of death by 19 per cent. In­ter­est­ingly, those who low­ered their BMI by more than 0.1 in a year had a 30 per cent in­creased risk of death.
