The heart of the matter
When it comes to heart disease, it’s exercise, not losing weight, that may be key to living longer. A study by Norwegian researchers followed just over 3300 patients for an average of 16 years. Compared to patients who were inactive, those who met the recommended 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week reduced their risk of death by 19 per cent. Interestingly, those who lowered their BMI by more than 0.1 in a year had a 30 per cent increased risk of death.
