There are plenty of rea­sons to cel­e­brate the Lans­downe Ho­tel re­open­ing in Syd­ney: live mu­sic, an Aus­tralian nat­u­ral-lean­ing wine list and no pok­ies for starters. The land­mark pub, closed since 2015, has been taken over by Jake Smyth and Kenny Gra­ham, the duo be­hind Mary’s, one of the city’s best burger joints. They’ve brought a lit­tle Mary’s to the new venue in the form of a deep-dish burger pizza. Made on long-fer­mented dough, it’s cov­ered with pat­ties “rolled into balls à la meat­lovers”, says Smyth, along with Amer­i­can cheese, onions, pick­les and Mary’s sauce. “It’s the pub’s sa­lute to the mighty Pizza Huts of the ’80s.” The Lans­downe Ho­tel, 2-6 City Rd, Chip­pen­dale, NSW, (02) 8218 2333
