Three sets of eight reps on each side, with a minute rest be­tween each set.

• Start on your back, with arms fully ex­tended and legs at a right an­gle. • At the same time, swing left arm above your head, and ex­tend right leg, us­ing core mus­cles to keep your­self from twist­ing your body. • Hold for one-two sec­onds. • Re­turn to the orig­i­nal po­si­tion and re­peat on the op­po­site side.

“My whole week is planned to the minute – where I have to be and what I have to eat,” says Mag­nussen, whose am­bas­sado­rial role for lux­ury watch brand Mau­rice Lacroix must surely come in handy. “I have seven swim ses­sions, three weights ses­sions in the gym and two Pi­lates ses­sions. When I'm fully fit, I swim 30km a week, and in the off-sea­son that dou­bles to 60km. I en­joy Pi­lates be­cause swimming is a pretty soli­tary sport – so it’s nice to be able to talk to peo­ple.”
