TWe like a clas­sic mar­tini as much as the next guy. But when the most tal­ented bar­tenders on the planet come to­gether to cre­ate some fresh takes on the tra­di­tional cock­tail, who are we to ar­gue? Ear­lier this year, Belvedere Vodka gave it­self an im­pos­si­ble task. As Spec­tre’s of­f­cial vodka brand, it asked mixol­o­gists to dream up a new ver­sion of 007’s sta­ple. Aus­tralian en­trants com­peted to im­press a judg­ing panel that in­cluded our very own editor in chief, Nick Smith – him­self no stranger to a good mar­tini. The win­ning recipe was re­vealed ear­lier this year – World Mar­tini Day – with the chance to be served at se­lect Spec­tre pre­mieres around the world. Fol­low­ing much de­lib­er­a­tion, Ni­cholas Sel­vadu­rai of Mel­bourne’s su­per-cool Cookie was crowned Aus­tralian cham­pion. His vic­to­ri­ous ef­fort, ‘The Tie Clip’, is an ob­vi­ous nod to Mr Bond’s im­mac­u­late sar­to­rial style – and more im­por­tantly, it’s de­li­cious. Here’s how to make it.
