THE NEW PARTY IN TOWN
As a GQ Watch reader, you’ll be familiar with our anticipation of the new releases from two great watch fairs – the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva and Baselworld. For the past three years, a third contender has come to prominence in the form of Watches & Wonders, held in October in Asia, to capitalise on the rampant growth of the region’s luxury industry. Organised by the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, Watches & Wonders provides a platform for a dozen brands to launch novelties and collections (and create a whole new batch of items for GQ Watch followers to add to their wish lists). Last year’s event was held in Hong Kong, with GQ editor in chief, Nick Smith, given an exclusive invitation to inspect the wares. Here, he picks his ‘10 of the best’ and identifes special timepieces to look out for, or lust after, seeing as some cost the equivalent of a small apartment.
