The Book

Nick Cave as novelist. For anyone who attempted And the Ass Saw the Angel, it’s an anxious proposition. Fear not, though, with his latest hardback offering, The Sick Bag Song. An engaging adventure detailing his 22-stop 2014 tour of the US, it delivers great insight into the Prince of Darkness and his many varied visions. As for the title, it simply refers to the fact he penned a lot of the prosey mash-up on the back of airline sick bags. $24.99; Text Publishing

The Doco

Jennifer Peedom should be better known – the local director and Race Around Oz alum’s latest effort, Sherpa, yet another brilliant highlight of her talent and a piece that warrants its BAFTA nomination. Capturing the worst tragedy to ever hit Everest – when, in 2014, an avalanche blew apart the climbing route, killing 16 Nepalese guides – the story details that fateful day (cameras happened to be there and rolling) and the surviving Sherpas’ desire to reclaim the mountain they call Chomolungma.
