Happy 85th Birthday to Jaeger-lecoultre
As anniversaries go, this wouldn’t usually be one for the history books, unless you’re Jaeger-lecoultre. 2016 is all about the brand’s Art-deco inspired, double-faced ‘Reverso’. Originally designed in 1931, its swivelling case was created for polo players to wear while riding, to avoid the crystal being crushed by a strike from an opponent’s mallet. Pretty niche, right? But this concept opened up a world of possibilities, making the ‘Reverso’ one of the most instantly recognisable and iconic watches ever made. This year, the brand has stripped back the line (from 53 case variants to six), and allowed customers to personalise their watch. The hero piece is the platinum ‘Tribute Gyrotourbillon’, which uses a mechanically impressive bi-axial flying tourbillon with two carriages.
