Dennington was a busy man this issue, shooting both our Champion feature with Rio-bound athletes Cameron Mcevoy, Josh Clarke and Dylan Alcott (p161), and our travel suiting story (p84) inside Sydney International Airport’s new Qantas First Class Lounge.
WHAT WAS THE QANTAS FIRST CLASS LOUNGE LIKE?
The architecture was quite interesting; jaunty angles and the repetition of forms throughout the space were great.
SPEAKING OF TRAVEL, DO YOU HAVE ANY TOP TIPS?
Appreciate the hospitality offered to you and embrace any mistakes you will make with language. That’s half the fun.
WHAT WERE THE ATHLETES LIKE TO WORK WITH?
The athletes were all really good sports, and I found Dylan Alcott’s energy especially inspiring.
COULDN’T AGREE MORE. DID THEY INSPIRE YOU TO FOLLOW YOUR OWN OLYMPIC DREAMS?
I’ll stick to taking pictures, I think.
FAIR ENOUGH. DO YOU PREFER SHOOTING CELEB PORTRAITS OR FASHION STORIES?
I love documenting a real-life scenario of a person living a moment in their life. Fashion tends to involve a constructed narrative, which I also really like.
ANY PHOTOGRAPHERS WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?
I like German artist Tobias Zielony, as he has such amazing access. I also like Paul Graham for his ability to instil meaning in otherwise banal, everyday scenes.
