As humans have grown ever taller and fatter, cars – even sports cars – have followed the trend, to the point where the latest M4 is a hulking beast that feels as hefty as it does powerful. The M2, however, takes us back to a lighter, brighter time, when the inherent balance of BMWS was part of their brilliance. Everything about this car feels right, from the weight of the steering to the way it handles corners, and the way it accelerates, and stops. On a racetrack, it’s a wide-faced grin, with plenty of tail-sliding action if you want it. On the road, it’s sharp, but not so much that you’d cut yourself. ‘Pure’ is the one word that comes to mind, again and again.
