A MAJOR EXHIBITION OF THE PROLIFIC BRITISH ARTIST IS ABOUT TO HIT MELBOURNE.
He’s one of the world’s most influential artists, with a career spanning more than half a century. Now, David Hockney is coming to Melbourne’s NGV. While he’s best known for his ’60s portraits of LA life, this collection of 700-plus works spans the past decade and features pieces never seen in Australia – paintings, photography, video works and a series of ipad drawings. Highlights include a 35m-long gallery, filled with some 80 works of his friends, family and contemporaries, as well as Hockney’s largest painting, Bigger Trees Near Warter, a gigantic oil landscape made up of 50 canvas panels. Not bad for a man who turns 80 next year. David Hockney runs November 11, 2016 – March 13, 2017; ngv.vic.gov.au
