WRITER

Having relocated from Sydney to Paris last year, Oo recently spent a day at the polo and caught up with a few of the star players. Read all about it on p182.

GIVE US A LITTLE-KNOWN FUN FACT ABOUT POLO.

It’s only played right-handed, so lefties have to re-train themselves.

INTERESTING. ANY PLANS TO GET IN THE SADDLE YOURSELF?

Probably not. I can’t even commit to a cat, let alone a horse.

GOT ANY FAVOURITE FRENCH PHRASES AT THE MOMENT?

The Parisians like to say “putain de merde, fait chier” when something goes really wrong. I won’t translate it but you can probably guess what it means.

SOMETHING CHEESE-RELATED, NO DOUBT. WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT LIVING IN PARIS?

That you can go out any time of the day and there’s always something on. There are so many restaurants, bars, concerts, and events to check out.

ANY DOWNSIDES?

The weather. It’s grey and raining about 90 per cent of the time.

WHAT THREE THINGS SHOULD WE DO IF WE FIND OURSELVES IN THE FRENCH CAPITAL?

Visit Luxembourg Gardens, go for lunch and people-watching at Café Charlot in the Marais, and have an apéro somewhere along the Seine or Canal Saint Martin.

ANY TIPS FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO LIVE THE FREELANCE WRITING DREAM?

Make as many contacts as possible and write – and read – as much as you can.
