LIGHT BREIT

With its almost obsessive focus on internal mechanisms, the watch world can be a whisper-quiet place, where elegant refinement rules supreme. While the stealth approach has its attractions, sometimes you need a bold timepiece that won’t settle for silent appreciation. Fortunately, among the rarefied Swiss brands, Breitling is not afraid to make some noise. Even Breitling’s name for the watch, ‘Avenger Hurricane’, comes across like a superhero movie. We’re guessing the association is deliberate – the highimpact 50mm case is constructed from the type of material Tony Stark would dream up. Much harder, yet 5.8 times lighter than steel, the material is called ‘Breitlight’, resists scratches and corrosion, and is anti-magnetic and 100m water-resistant – all that’s really missing is a cape and a maudlin backstory.
