Montblanc’s smartwatch hits the summit of Baselworld
Montblanc’s ‘Summit’ is the first smartwatch from the Richemont stable. One of the first watch brands to sell timepieces directly from its website, Montblanc clearly believes customers are now accustomed to buying luxury online. So much so, it offered the ‘Summit’ exclusively through Mr Porter for the first two weeks of its May launch. The piece comes with four case options – a black PVD stainless steel model, stainless steel with a black PVD bezel, stainless steel with a satin finish, and a grade-5 titanium version. Eight leather and NATO straps and a variety of dial options (some exclusive to the ‘Summit’) make for more than 300 possible configurations. Tech-wise, the ‘Summit’ uses Google’s recently-launched Android Wear 2.0, which has been optimised for messaging, fitness tracking, navigation and notifications. Frequent travellers will appreciate a nifty ‘Global Translator’ that can convert phrases into 100-plus languages, and a ‘Hands-free Boarding’ app. And Uber is all pre-installed into this beefy, 46mm by 12.5mm, bit of kit.
