Mont­blanc’s smart­watch hits the sum­mit of Basel­world

Mont­blanc’s ‘Sum­mit’ is the first smart­watch from the Richemont sta­ble. One of the first watch brands to sell time­pieces di­rectly from its web­site, Mont­blanc clearly be­lieves cus­tomers are now ac­cus­tomed to buy­ing lux­ury on­line. So much so, it of­fered the ‘Sum­mit’ ex­clu­sively through Mr Porter for the first two weeks of its May launch. The piece comes with four case op­tions – a black PVD stain­less steel model, stain­less steel with a black PVD bezel, stain­less steel with a satin fin­ish, and a grade-5 ti­ta­nium ver­sion. Eight leather and NATO straps and a va­ri­ety of dial op­tions (some ex­clu­sive to the ‘Sum­mit’) make for more than 300 pos­si­ble con­fig­u­ra­tions. Tech-wise, the ‘Sum­mit’ uses Google’s re­cently-launched An­droid Wear 2.0, which has been op­ti­mised for mes­sag­ing, fit­ness track­ing, nav­i­ga­tion and no­ti­fi­ca­tions. Fre­quent trav­ellers will ap­pre­ci­ate a nifty ‘Global Trans­la­tor’ that can con­vert phrases into 100-plus lan­guages, and a ‘Hands-free Board­ing’ app. And Uber is all pre-in­stalled into this beefy, 46mm by 12.5mm, bit of kit.
