Teams from across the Great Southern converged on Albany for the annual Great Southern Hockey Carnival last weekend.
Twenty-two teams in the men’s and women’s divisions vied for the respective titles.
Central Great Southern fielded two teams in the women’s competition while teams from Tambellup, Wagin, Katanning and Greater Wheatbelt contested the men’s division across two pools.
The women’s final on Sunday afternoon was an all-Albany affair, with Spencer Peaks City defeating Albany Bullets 2-1.
In the men’s final, Perth-based North Coast Raiders proved too strong for Esperance, winning 2-0.
Katanning duo Zac Hatfield and Will Tan along with Tambellup’s Jared White and Ben Holmes were recognised for their consistent performances across the carnival with selection in the men’s all-star side.
The women’s all-star team also had plenty of local representation, featuring Central Great Southern’s Kat Marsiniak and Laura Archer, while Ongerup’s Kelly Barr and Robins’ Janice Sieber were also rewarded.
The annual carnival will be held in Esperance next year.
