Update offers grain growers advice
WA farmers were invited to attend the annual Grains Research and Development Corporation Farm Business Update event.
Convened by agricultural consultants ORM, the WA GRDC Farm Business Update events were held this week in Cunderdin, Kojonup and Yuna.
GRDC senior regional manager Charlie Thorn said the event aims to provide growers and advisers with a unique opportunity to hear first-hand from experts in a range of fields and to discuss the application of information to their own businesses. “Topics covered ranged from the broader perspective of economic drivers impacting on the farm sector through to individual on-farm grower experiences,” he said.
“Building mental and emotional resilience was also firmly on the agenda.”
ORM managing consultant Matt McCarthy said it was good to see a range of agricultural experts attend.
“We had about 100 people attend the event in Cunderdin and about 70-80 people at the Kojonup one,” he said.
“It was really good to see the range of farmers, growers and bankers and there were also lots of couples who attended.
“The business updates aim at providing grain growers with information specific to farm business challenges — labour management, digital data, understanding the economy and how it’s affecting agriculture.” GRDC Farm Business Updates work closely with local grower groups including the Cunderdin Community Resource Centre, Southern Dirt and Yuna Farm Improvement Group.
“GRDC Farm Business Updates could not succeed without the local presence it gets,” Mr Thorn said.
