Solid squad to take on top players
Upper Great Southern Football League will take a strong team to Landmark Country Football Championships.
The side will face off against Avon and Great Northern on Friday at Fremantle Oval and South West on Saturday at Joondalup Oval in division 1.
Three modified matches will be played by each team in the division, which also include Peel, to qualify for the grand final on Sunday at Claremont oval.
The team coached by Blair Forrest will face off against some WA’s best country footballers in the competition’s first division.
Club captain Jordan Heil, a seasoned UGSFL representative, said selection was a special moment for local footballers. “It means a lot to them, especially when you look at past players who use to be there, they’re players you want to play with, who you watch as a young kid and want to play at the standard they play,” he said. “When you go up there, you’re playing at a higher level and makes you a better player, especially when you come back.
“Jack Walsh and Naynay (Nathan Ugle) who’ll come back playing local footy after that, (they’ll) be better footballers for it.”
Forrest said the club was excited for Ugle to make his Landmark debut.
“Massive moment for him to go up there and play at a really high level of football,” he said.
“As Jordan said, he’ll come back and be a better footballer for it.”
