Club ath­letes savour suc­cess at na­tion­als

Katan­ning Taek­wondo has brought home sev­eral medals and plenty of ex­pe­ri­ence from the Aus­tralian Taek­wondo Na­tional Cham­pi­onships.

Six mem­bers from the club rep­re­sented WA at the cham­pi­onships in Bendigo, which ran from Septem­ber 22 to 24.

On the first day of com­pe­ti­tion, Katan­ning had two ath­letes, Imo­gen Van Zyl and Robert Ry­der, com­pet­ing in coloured belt spar­ring.

Imo­gen was com­pet­ing in the red fe­male 15-17 59/63kg di­vi­sion and won her semi­fi­nal by a mar­gin of 16 points.

Imo­gen could not over­come a good op­po­nent in the fi­nal and was placed in the sil­ver medal po­si­tion.

Robert was com­pet­ing in the blue belt male 17+ 80/87kg di­vi­sion, and in his fi­nal was placed in the sil­ver medal po­si­tion.

On the sec­ond day of com­pe­ti­tion, Su­sann was com­pet­ing in the Poom­sae WT in­di­vid­ual black belt fe­male 12-14 years di­vi­sion and placed out­side of the medal po­si­tions.

The last day of com­pe­ti­tion was set down for Poom­sae, with Katan­ning ath­letes com­pet­ing in six events.

Zacheus Ndong’a and Amanda Ry­der were placed in the bronze medal po­si­tion and Robert placed in the sil­ver medal po­si­tion. Those mem­bers who fin­ished out­side of the medal po­si­tion scored and per­formed well.

Katan­ning Taek­wondo re­turned from the na­tional com­pe­ti­tion with three sil­ver medals and two bronze medals.

Wil­liam Col­lis, Imo­gen Van Zyl, Amanda Ry­der, Robert Ry­der, Su­sann Ndong’a and Zacheus Ndong’a are all smiles af­ter re­turn­ing from the Aus­tralian Taek­wondo Na­tional Cham­pi­onships, which were held in Bendigo late last month.
