Club athletes savour success at nationals
Katanning Taekwondo has brought home several medals and plenty of experience from the Australian Taekwondo National Championships.
Six members from the club represented WA at the championships in Bendigo, which ran from September 22 to 24.
On the first day of competition, Katanning had two athletes, Imogen Van Zyl and Robert Ryder, competing in coloured belt sparring.
Imogen was competing in the red female 15-17 59/63kg division and won her semifinal by a margin of 16 points.
Imogen could not overcome a good opponent in the final and was placed in the silver medal position.
Robert was competing in the blue belt male 17+ 80/87kg division, and in his final was placed in the silver medal position.
On the second day of competition, Susann was competing in the Poomsae WT individual black belt female 12-14 years division and placed outside of the medal positions.
The last day of competition was set down for Poomsae, with Katanning athletes competing in six events.
Zacheus Ndong’a and Amanda Ryder were placed in the bronze medal position and Robert placed in the silver medal position. Those members who finished outside of the medal position scored and performed well.
