$30,000 for LGBTI

Guardian Express - - NEWS -

TWO West Perth organisations will receive $30,000 each to support the LGBTI during the same sex marriage survey.

WA AIDS Council will use the money, supplied by the State Government, to deliver increased mental health awareness and support and Living Proud will be able to undertake health promotion and training specifically for LGBTI people.

Mental Health Minister Roger Cook said the survey process meant the LGBTI community was being forced to experience a hurtful and cruel campaign.

“The LGBTI community experience higher rates of mental health issues than the general population, and this is due in part to experiences of discrimination and exclusion,” he said.

Anyone needing support can call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
