Scarborough Beach Pool Update

Guardian Express - - NEWS -

The City’s Scarborough Beach Pool project is fast becoming a reality. Under construction just south of the iconic beach amphitheatre, the $26 million facility will feature a 50m outdoor heated pool with eight lanes, four adjoining 25m lanes and a separate learn to swim pool. Supporting amenities include change rooms, recreational areas, restaurant and a café.

Recent milestones for the facility include the City securing geothermal energy, which will provide natural heat to maintain pool temperature. During the works, contractors drilled to depths of 430m and 960m and tests have indicated that the process will provide the required water temperature.

The pool itself has been excavated, formed, poured, waterproofed and leak tested. The grandstand seating for 200 spectators has been completed and the internal fitout is well underway. It is expected that the pool will be completed by late 2017, with the facility set to officially open in early 2018.
