Dorothy’s yellow brick road connecting Whatley

Guardian Express - - STREET WATCH -

Local artist Ill Withers has been working with the Vintage Emporium in Maylands to create a Wizard of Oz style yellow brick road designed to connect the retail strips along Whatley Crescent.

The yellow brick design of this pavement artwork also features the traditional street game of hopscotch. The game and the artwork add points of interest and encourage shoppers to explore Whatley Crescent’s retail area to discover all that it has to offer.

The creative idea for the artwork was put forward by the Vintage Emporium following a call put out by the City of Bayswater for community-led place activation projects.

The artwork has now been completed, so next time you’re in Maylands, be like Dorothy and just follow the yellow brick road – and maybe rediscover your inner child and play a little hopscotch.
