‘How to’ video will help green the Garden City

Guardian Express - - STREET WATCH -

Over the winter planting period the City of Bayswater will have planted over a thousand trees to help green the City’s streets and verges.

The planting forms part of the City’s commitment to increasing the urban tree canopy. In an urban environment, trees provide many benefits including: improving air quality, better storm water management, providing habitat for native birds and other fauna, and making our streets more welcoming.

Residents can play a part in greening the City too and last week work began on filming a ‘How to Plant a Tree’ video so that anyone putting in a tree will know exactly how to give them the best chance to thrive.

City Arborist Mark Short is the star of the video and he will explain how to prepare the ground for the tree, how to use fertiliser to support its growth and how to make sure water reaches the roots.

The video will be available to view on the City’s Facebook page and website by the end of the September.
