PERTH MLA John Carey is all about “taking the Mickey” out of himself.

After dressing up as Edward Scissorhands for his Halloween campaign fundraiser last year, Mr Carey will this month ham it up as Dr Evil, the villain from the Austin Powers films.

This year’s theme is good versus evil, with a West Perth studio being transformed into heaven and hell.

“I know it is not typical for a politician to dress up but I have different fundraising techniques,” Mr Carey said.

“I don’t think politicians should take themselves too seriously; we have a serious job but you can’t live in a bubble, you have got to mix it up.”

Mr Carey said it was never too early to fundraise for the 2021 election.

“The next election seems like a long way, but they are deeply expensive,” he said.
