Newcomer Tours

Guardian Express - - NEWS -

Several times each year, the City of Stirling hosts Newcomer Tours for newly-arrived migrants to share information about City services and Aboriginal culture. Delivered through Department of Social Services funding, the tours include a stop at a City library as well as a beach visit to talk about water safety.

In addition, each group visits the City’s Administration Centre to meet Mayor Cr Mark Irwin. During the most recent tour held this month, Mayor Irwin gave group members including Adult Migrant English Program students an insight into the role of local government. Mayor Irwin took the group on a tour of council chambers and answered plenty of great questions about council operations.

Feedback from participants has indicated that the visit to the City’s Mount Flora Museum to learn about Aboriginal culture and meeting the Mayor were tour highlights.
